And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. - Phil 1:6
It is important for us to remember that our lives are not about us. We are not the focal point of the universe. We are not the main characters of our story.
It is all about Jesus.
When properly understood, this brings great relief. It means that victory is not dependant upon our efforts.
Victory belongs to the Lord, and we become partakers of that victory as we surrender and yield ourselves to Him.
When the CEO of a big company sends an employee on a business trip, does he leave him to his own devices? Or does he make sure that he is well taken care of? If the CEO wants his will to be accomplished, he will make sure the employee has all his needs taken care of so that he is free to focus on the mission.
In the same way, we have each been commissioned by God to accomplish a specific mission. If God has sent us somewhere, He will provide us the ability to get there. With every calling comes the necessary provision. This does not mean that the journey will be without struggle, but it does mean that He will be with us to overcome whatever struggles we face.
If we are confident we are doing His will, then we can be confident in His provision on our journey. For this reason we should shift our focus from 'how will I be provided for?' to 'what is His will for my life?'
And when, by faith, we take one step at a time, we will eventually be able to look back and see that He was with us every step of the way.

For it is God who works in you,
both to will and to work
for his good pleasure
