Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” - Mark 1:14-15
Most people, including most Christians, are completely unaware of the fundamental message that Jesus preached during his brief ministry.
Yes He preached about love, and forgiveness, and righteousness and many other profoundly important topics.
But His main message was this:
The Kingdom of God is at hand.
Everything else He talked about found its place under this main theme.
And what exactly is the Kingdom of God?
This is a question many people undoubtedly were interested in , as most of Jesus's parables began with: "The Kingdom of God is like..."
He never answered the question directly because the Kingdom is not something you can know intellectually, it is a reality you must know experientially.
His parables paint a picture of this new reality through many differing perspectives. (See Matthew 13 for many of them)
Paul gives us a hint when he says to the Romans "For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." (Rom 14:17)
The Kingdom of God is the new reality that Jesus ushered into our world 2000 years ago. It is available to anyone who wishes to enter. It is infinite and eternal, and no one can reach the end of its glory. It will reveal itself to us to the extent we seek it. It will hide itself from us to the extent we neglect it.

"Seek first the Kingdom of God"
Matt 6:33
