Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:6
John 14:6 is one of the most recognized verses in the Bible. In it, Jesus clearly declares His supremacy to all other paths, philosophies, or religions.
Jesus is declaring that He is all-sufficient. We don't need Jesus + anything else. If we have Jesus we have everything we need.
Jesus was communicating to His disciples that:
the Way to the Truth,
the Truth about Life,
and Life itself
are all mystically contained within His being.
The Way, the Truth, and the Life are all united in Christ. If we find one, we have simultaneously received all three.
In other words, when it comes to the Gospel, you can’t get to the right place in the wrong way, because the right way is the right place! Jesus is the means and the end. The "right place" to be is not so much a destination as it is a state of being. When we align our psyches with the divine Logos by following Jesus we enter into this state of being even on earth.
Everytime we orient ourselves to be walking in this Right Way we are placing ourselves in heaven on earth.
When we walk in step with Jesus, we no longer have to speculate about heaven because we experience its reality first-hand. The wonderful mystery of the Incarnation reveals to us that even in this broken world, the fullness of heaven was able to temporarily dwell in bodily form.
Jesus offers this divine heavenly gift free of charge to all people. Pride is the only thing blocking us from receiving it.
Our job is not to climb and claw our way upward to heaven, but rather to lay our lives down at the foot of the Cross. The Spirit longs to make our hearts His home. All we must do is invite Him in.
Then Jesus declared,
“I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me
will never go hungry,
and whoever believes in me
will never be thirsty.
John 6:35
