The Alpha and Omega (Rev 22:13)

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End - Revelation 22:13

Here in one of the very last verses in the Bible, we have Jesus making one statement using three different phrases.

In essence He is saying, "I am Everything. Nothing begins apart from me. Nothing ends apart from me. Nothing exists outside of me."

This is the attitude all followers of Christ must have. There should be no aspect of life that a Christian does not desire the Lord to be an intrinsic part of.

Jesus is either everything to you or He is nothing to you. There is no place for fence sitting in His Kingdom.

There is no such thing as a Christian who has made Jesus somewhat a part of their life. These people are not Christians, despite whatever they may call themselves.

Earlier in the book of Revelation, Jesus says that He will spit out those who are lukewarm. Can we imagine Jesus "spitting out" any of His genuine disciples? Of course not.

There are a great many people today who use God as a means to an end. They will completely ignore God until trouble hits. "Prayer" to them is a list of needs and wants resembling a child's Christmas list to Santa Claus.

Jesus not only shows us the way, He is the Way.

He not only teaches us the truth, He is the Truth.

He not only gives us life, He is Life itself.

This is not to say that God does not earnestly desire to meet us in our deepest moments of need; only that He desires to meet us there as Lover rather than Butler.

A Christ that is a means to an end is no Christ at all. He is a mere figment of man's imagination.

The true Christ is the means and the end to everything in life.

He is the beginning and the end of everything in the created universe.

And He desires to be the beginning and the end of every desire in the hearts of His children, if only we would see Him as worthy of such an honor.

You must worship no other gods,

for the LORD, whose very name is Jealous,

is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you

Exodus 34:14
