For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also - Matt 6:21

Our heart is our life.

What we love is who we are.

Life is not about accumulating material goods, or even about accumulating spiritual knowledge.

Life is about the transformation of our hearts.

It is about becoming men and women whose hearts love God and love like God.

In the end, we will not be judged based upon how smart we were, how hardworking we were, or how many good deeds we did, but upon how well we loved.

To what extent did our hearts conform to the heart of Jesus Christ?

This is all that will matter on that final day.

Jesus tells us in this verse that our hearts will be where our treasure is. In other words, it will be impossible for our love to be in Christ when our treasure is invested elsewhere.

Whatever dominates our time, money, and focus - this is where our hearts will be found.

We cannot, by sheer willpower, cause ourselves to become image-bearers of this divine love. This transformation is wholly God's work. But what we can do is choose to invest our treasure into the Kingdom of God - and in this way we will do our part in directing our hearts towards Christ.

Are we storing up treasures on earth or in heaven? The answer to this question will reveal to us where our hearts will find their home.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,

where moth and rust destroy,

and where thieves break in and steal.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,

where moth and rust do not destroy,

and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Matt 6:19-20
